A Painting is worth a thousand words... 

Ruben Martinez Chamizo's art is a blending of innocent, primitive and academic  styles.  He prefers to paint without the restrictions of the classic schools, choosing subjects that trigger his imagination and his own personal interests.  It is not surprising his art work falls into the realm of surrealism.

      Chamizo's themes and subjects are incredibly diverse.  Using oil as primary media, he also employs acrylics and mixed media.  

      His primary objective is to achieve aesthetic beauty, utilizing an array of colors.   His focus is on obtaining a rhythmic equilibrium and movement that is evident in all of his work, even his still life.

 Chamizo was born in Cuba. He came to the United States in 1961 at the age of 17.  He arrived in Miami and traveled the following
day to Bridgeport, Connecticut where he  attended Bassick High School.   There, he won for two consecutive years the United Nations Poster Contest, second and first places; and early showing off Ruben's gift for painting.  Chamizo continued to paint as a hobby during the years he lived in New York City and later in Miami. 

Chamizo is known for his imaginative way of storytelling, through visually stimulating oil and acrylic paintings which bordered surrealism and primitivism. He is a complete artist who not only paints, and does it well, but is also involved in the acting industry.  He has appeared in several commercials, soap operas and in the movie “I love Miami.”

He has participated in various solo and  Multi-Artist exhibitions in  Miami.  Some of his work was exhibited at MAC (Miami Art Central) auditorium gallery. 

Chamizo's proudest accomplishment is the opening of Chamizo Art Gallery at the Gables, created not only to advance his career as an artist, but also the arts. This venture was created in an effort to promote and support the endeavors of new and promising talent as well as to display his art.

Conscious of the community’s need for artistic expansion, we were happy to have contributed to that dream.
